Objectives:
By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
1. Identify key sources and strategies for the effective retrieval of qualitative research.
2. Understand the contribution that qualitative research can make to Cochrane effectiveness reviews.
3. Describe the choices with regard to both quantity and quality to be made when specifying types of qualitative research to enhance Cochrane effectiveness reviews.
4. Evaluate the effectiveness of different sampling strategies for identification of qualitative research.
5. Locate and select the most appropriate filters for effective retrieval of qualitative evidence.

Description:
With an increasing interest in the inclusion of qualitative research to enhance Cochrane effectiveness reviews, as witnessed by five mixed methods protocols in progress, this workshop will profile the Cochrane Qualitative Research Methods Group's guidance on study identification, study selection and preliminary quality assessment.
Delivered by experienced co-facilitators of the Cochrane Qualitative Research Methods Group this workshop will build upon a basic knowledge of literature searching techniques to equip participants with the skills to meet the challenge of incorporating qualitative research into Cochrane effectiveness reviews.
