Abstract text
Abstract:
Objectives: To introduce, discuss and further develop a framework for
going from evidence to decisions about which drugs, tests, devices,
procedures or services are paid for by insurance schemes (coverage
decisions).
Description: The workshop will include brief presentations, small and
large group discussion, and application of the framework to examples of
coverage decisions. We will present a framework that incorporates key
dimensions relevant to coverage decisions. The framework has been
developed based on a review of the literature and stakeholder
consultations. Participants will discuss the sensibility of the
framework. Examples of coverage decisions will then be presented
following which participants will apply the framework to the examples.
The examples will include different types of coverage decisions and
different contexts. We will conclude by discussing ways in which the
framework could be further developed and improved, and tools and
strategies that could further facilitate coverage decisions that are
well informed by research evidence. The workshop will contribute to
Developing and Evaluating Communication strategies to support Informed
Decisions and practice based on Evidence (DECIDE). DECIDE
(www.decide-collaboration.eu) is a 5-year project funded by the European
Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme. Partners in DECIDE include
members of the GRADE Working Group and four Cochrane Centres.
